could you identify bird similar in size and colouring of jack snipe but with a black spoon bill dead straight about 1 inch wide with a round spoon at front about an inch and half round. Beak a fraction longer than body. Bird stood as high as blackbird standing upright, Sited in back garden at Penzance, Cornwall on 11th January 2015.
Observed for about 25 minutes (7/50) binoculars) distance about 20 feet. Was feeding in very soft lawn with beak no more than 46 degrees to body and penetrating quite deeply.
I assume that it was a bird that had been deflected from the west
