On behalf of William who sent in an email:-

This bird of prey was seen cruising thermals over Blenheim Palace last week. All I could see was this silhouette. I'm guessing the shape and forked tail will be a dead giveaway!

 Any help appreciated!

Hi William.

This is a Red Kite. Very distinctive with its V shaped tail.

In the North of the UK Buzzards seem to be more promenant as the generally largest birds of prey but as you travel South/South East through the Midlands and beyond these now seem to be taking their place.

Great looking birds!!
