On behalf of Joel who sent in an email:-

This very pretty bird just arrived in my garden. About the size of a fluffy thrush and looking a bit cold. It's a new one on me. I checked it out in my Collins but could not identify it.

Can you help, please.

I have the same bird in my garden this afternoon - never seen one before - chasing off the blackbirds and feasting on the remaining crab apples - looks very cold indeed!

An update from Joel received by email:-

Thanks for posting this bird. After further research I think that it is a fieldfare. This morning another similar bird in all respects except that it doesn't have the pink colour on it's chest has joined the first one - presumable it's partner. Definitely unusual to see this bird in a town garden - I guess it might be sheltering from the austerity in the country. We have put some bird food out.

Cheers
