Hello all!

I hope you don't mind my ignorance, and i just know that this is pretty obvious to most of you, but this bird of prey landed on the roof top opposite the house this morning and i was wandering what it was.

To me, it has the face and eyes of a sparrow hawk, but the redness made me think merlin. Help!

I guess it could simply be a sparrowhawk that has just made a kill?

many thanks for your help,
Chris

It's a male sparrowhawk.

Merlin colouring is slightly different, but they also have longer wings that almost reach the end of their tails.
